David R. Jefferson, PhD

STS 1966; ISEF 1964, 1965, 1966

David JeffersonDavid R. Jefferson, PhD, of San Ramon, California, is a computer scientist recently retired from supercomputing research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He is also a pioneer in election security who advised five California Secretaries of State on election technology and voting system issues. Working at the intersection of computing, the internet and elections, in 1994 David developed the California Election Server — the first web server anywhere to provide online voter information on candidates and issues as well as live election returns.

As a young mathematician, David participated in the Society’s International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in 1964, 1965 and 1966, and was a finalist (3rd place nationally) in the Science Talent Search in 1966.

“I have never forgotten the extraordinary experiences I had in my youth participating in science fairs and the Science Talent Search,” David says. “They were a lasting influence on my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to Society for Science to support its amazing work recognizing and inspiring young scientific talent. Besides monthly donations, I have made a provision in my will to leave a substantial gift.”

He continues, “I hope you will donate monthly or annually if you can. And during your estate planning I urge you to consider joining me with a generous bequest to the Society.”
